Family Fun Day & NEFAR Bass Tournament
Palatka, Fla., – Blue skies were smiling on the fishermen and families at the 10th Annual Northeast Florida Association of Realtors (NEFAR) Bass Fishing Tournament to benefit Haven Hospice. This year Haven added a Family Fun Day to the event with plenty of activities for all ages.
Kids took part in a casting tournament hosted by UNF Bass Fishing Club. Cody Godfrey won first place and a new fishing pole. There were large pools stocked with fish, so kids could experience the thrill of hooking a big one. There was music, food and a raffle with more than 80 prizes.
While everyone was having fun on land, the fishermen were reeling in their five bass to bring back to the Palatka City Dock. This year’s event had 92 boats, which is 20 more than last year. Each boat was allowed a team of two fishermen.
The big winners of the day were Wally Johns and Ryan Worthington. Their fish weighed in at 23.32 lbs. and they took home $2,500. They also won $1,000 for bringing in the biggest fish, which weighed 8.95 lbs.
Frank Streeter and James Cook came in second place and won $1,500 for their five fish, which weighed 22.92 lbs. Allen Hopper and Chad Willoughby won $1,000 for third place. Their fish weighed 22.66 lbs.
NEFAR presented Haven with a check for $25,759 at the end of the tournament, which is over $7,000 more than last year. Since NEFAR began hosting the event, they have donated more than $187,000 to Haven Hospice. All donations go to the Roberts Care Center in Palatka.
