Gators for Haven Hospice
Gators for Haven Hospice is a University of Florida organization established for the purpose of networking hospice volunteers at UF and promoting the goals of Haven Hospice. The goals emphasize serving people who are affected by life-limiting illness and loss. Gators for Haven Hospice upholds the standards of Haven Hospice in providing comprehensive, compassionate care while respecting each person’s needs, beliefs and wishes. These goals are achieved through meetings, guest speakers, and service activities. In 2011, Gators for Haven Hospice was recognized as the Work of Heart Collegiate Group of the year.
Group Volunteering and Carpooling
G4HH organizes group care center visits for members every other week and they provide carpools to the care center. Members help Haven with fundraising events, home visits and activities in various nursing and assisted living facilities around the Gainesville area. Even the most experienced volunteers sometimes feel more comfortable volunteering in groups. They also provide an open forum for G4HH members to coordinate hospice volunteering with each other.
All hours from G4HH meetings, service events and social events count as Haven Hospice volunteer hours.
Any students interested in starting a hospice volunteer program on their campus are invited to contact Haven's Volunteer Services Department at firstname.lastname@example.org.
