Hospice care in the United States is only about 30 years old. Many hospice care programs, including Haven Hospice, started in a hospital closet or basement and served only a small number of patients.
While the hospice care industry has grown, the mission remains the same: providing support for patients with a life-limiting or terminal illness that will improve the quality of their lives and relationships during their final days. Hospice provides round-the-clock care for patients wherever they are most comfortable, surrounded by family and friends.
A team of caring and compassionate professionals does everything possible to respond to the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of every patient and family. From adjusting medications to help control pain and side effects, to providing counseling and other support services, the team strives to maximize the patient’s comfort.
Hospice care is most often provided in the patient’s home, but is also available in hospitals, nursing homes, long-term care facilities, and at dedicated inpatient care centers.
