Baseball and Haven Hospice – A Great Combination
It was a great day for baseball – blue skies with some puffy white clouds and low humidity.
So for the third year in a row on Saturday afternoon, Haven Hospice and the University of North Florida Ospreys baseball team joined forces for the Jose vs. Pros Family Extravaganza, a fundraising event designed to raise funds for Camp Safe Haven, a day camp for children and teens who have lost a loved one, as well as other unfunded and unreimbursed Haven programs.
About 50 people, including 35 youngsters, participated at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. There were boys and girls ages 3 to 12. Kid Zone activities included face painting, coloring, crafts, balloon animals and jugglers.
The baseball camp included base running, bunting and fielding. There were two batting and pitching cages where participants were able to measure the speed of their hitting and throwing – one in the stands and one on the field.
Participants also enjoyed some delicious, traditional baseball food – hamburgers, hot dogs, cotton candy and snow cones.
“It was a wonderful way for families to spend the afternoon,” said Haven Hospice director of Marketing and Communications Susan Follick. “And it was a great success.”
