Greater St. Johns County Foster Adoptive Parents, Inc. Partners with Haven Hospice Attic for Free Clothing Drive

St. Augustine , Florida  (July 23, 2014)— The Greater St. Johns County Foster Adoptive Parents, Inc.(GSJCFAP)  partnered with the Haven Hospice St. Augustine Attic Resale Store for the third annual clothing drive on July 5 to provide clothes, shoes and toys to more than 40 foster families.

GSJCFAP Treasurer Lynn Schumacher and her son began the event when he needed to do a community service project as part of his requirements to earn his black belt in Taekwondo. Schumacher approached Haven Hospice about hosting this year’s event which was the first time that GSJCFAP has partnered with another organization.

The event was held at the Haven Hospice community room located at their new offices on 2497 U.S. Highway 1 South in St. Augustine. Haven also provided volunteers to assist in event preparation and donated items from the Haven Hospice Attic Resale Store. Haven Hospice Attic Resale Store Manager Pamela Strickland organized toys and games for children to play, so parents were able to shop and connect with one another.

“Having the partnership was wonderful. I had no idea Haven would donate so much of their resources to our event,” said Schumacher. “The staff and volunteers at Haven Hospice were so helpful and provided ideas that made the whole process run smoothly.”

“It was like Haven and GSJCFAP had been doing this together for years,” said Schumacher who has led this initiative with the GSJCFAP President Judy Williams each year. “This partnership provided a great opportunity for us to reach out to families we haven’t been able to reach before.”

“It was a lot of work and effort, but it was worth it to see the smiles on the faces of the children and their parents,” said Schumacher. “We look forward to the opportunity to partner with Haven again.”
