Nonprofit Teaches Children the Joy of Giving with Kids Night at the Attic
Gainesville, Florida (December 17, 2014) – More than 220 children met Santa Claus and picked out holiday gifts for their families which were wrapped by dedicated volunteer “elves” at the annual Kids Night at the Haven Hospice Attic Resale Store in Gainesville on December 11.
Haven Hospice employees, volunteers and members of the community donated more than 600 toys and gifts as well as their time and talents to make this the largest, most successful Kids Night since 2007. The Haven Hospice Attic Resale Store staff and volunteers collect gift items throughout the year in preparation for the event.
“Our goal for Kids Night is to teach the children how rewarding it is to give as well as receive during the holidays,” said Gainesville Attic Store Manager Steve Tinney. “Unlike other toy programs, we encourage the children to choose presents for their family members to ‘give’ on Christmas.”
Families came together to experience the holiday spirit with Haven volunteers and Attic staff while children, ages 5 to 12, had the opportunity to choose gifts for their family members using Santa Bucks. Haven also offered pictures with Santa Claus and free gift wrapping.
“The best part of being involved in this event is realizing how important our contribution is to this community and experiencing Haven’s ability to make these children smile during this special time of year,” said Tinney.
