Lake City residents Sam Courson, Crandall Bales and Paul Hornburg were recognized recently for their military service in World War II by Haven Hospice Veteran Volunteers.
Courson served in the United States (U.S.) Navy, and he managed the paint shop aboard the USS Elizabeth C. Stanton. Hornburg served in the U.S. Army as an infantry squad leader. Bales served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a P-51 Mustang mechanic. The Haven Hospice Pinning Ceremony for veteran patients includes a veteran pin, a thank you card signed by the staff and a certificate of appreciation from Haven Hospice which are all presented by volunteer veterans. The presentation ends with a salute to honor the veteran’s service.
