Over 200 attendees celebrated the Kentucky Derby with Haven Hospice on May 2 at the picturesque Oaks of Lake City Equestrian Center with a series of equestrian events in the morning and Equus, a Kentucky Derby gala, in the evening raising over $20,000 for Haven Hospice unreimbursed programs and services in the Suwannee Valley. Morning equestrian events included an obstacle challenge, a hunter’s pace, and a Western Open Fun Show as well as English and Western Dressage. In the early evening, Equus attendees in beautiful hats and handsome bowties gathered to watch the Kentucky Derby on a big screen in the exquisite stables and enjoyed appetizers, drinks, games and a silent auction of incredible prizes. Sarah Sandlin won the best hat contest while Justin Peeler won for best bowtie. Haven would like to thank all of the supporters and sponsors that made the first year of this event so successful.
