“While visiting in the care center, my husband found a beautiful painting of Huntsville Church just outside our friend’s room.  That Church is where we were married, where my husband’s son was christened and the church’s cemetery is where his mother and many other family members are buried,” said Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center Patient Care Manager Barbara Roberts, who recently purchased a painting from the Suwannee Valley Care Center. “We are going to find a very special place to display the painting in our home.”

The Haven ArtsCare program provides artists with the opportunity to showcase their work and help the community by raising dollars to fund unreimbursed patient care, education, family support services and other vital community programs offered by Haven.

ArtsCare exhibits can feature either one artist displaying 20 to 30 pieces or multiple artists displaying 5 to 10 pieces each. The work will be displayed for eight weeks, but this time frame can be adjusted as needed. Participating artists donate 35 percent of sales revenue to Haven Hospice.

The Suwannee Valley Care Center held an open house on August 20 to showcase the artwork that was recently put on display. Some of the artwork on display was created by Judith Adams, the current Live Oak artist guild president and Live Oak resident of 15 years.

“The Live Oak Artist Guild got involved early on, we wanted to find a place to showcase our art that would enhance the lives of the families, staff and the patients in the care center,” said Adams who is originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and has been painting for over 25 years. “Participating in the ArtsCare program is a cultural experience, a learning experience and an opportunity to show what the artists in this area can do.”

Displayed artwork must be matted, framed, with the exception of canvas paintings, be wire hung and include professional labels that state title and price.

To be considered, the artist must complete an exhibiting artist application and return it with a minimum of 10 photos representative of their work.
