Over 500 attendees celebrated the Kentucky Derby with Haven Hospice on May 2 at the picturesque Oaks of Lake City Equestrian Center for the second annual Equus, a Kentucky Derby gala, which raised over $70,000 for Haven Hospice unreimbursed programs and services in the Suwannee Valley.

Equus attendees in beautiful hats and handsome bowties gathered to watch the Kentucky Derby on a several big screens in the exquisite stables and enjoyed appetizers, drinks, games and a silent auction of incredible prizes.

“We were astounded by the response to the event this year. The growth was just amazing,” said Haven Hospice Lake City Administrator Joseph Brooks. “That growth is a further demonstration of the support for Haven Hospice that exists in our area. We are humbled to be part of such a generous community and thankful for the opportunity to serve the patients and families who require our services.”

Haven would like to thank all of the supporters and sponsors that helped this event grow so much from the first year to the second.

“This event is vital to raising the funds required to provide the unreimbursed care and services offered by Haven Hospice,” Brooks said. “We look forward to another successful, exciting and entertaining event next year on Saturday, May 6. Guests will feel as though they are actually attending the Kentucky Derby.”

Haven would like to especially thank Title Sponsors: Odom, Moses & Company and Raymond James; Band Sponsor Lake City Medical Center; and Game Sponsor PotashCorp.

Haven serves all patients who are eligible for hospice care, regardless of their ability to pay and 100 percent of the monies raised through Equus remain in our local communities. Haven believes everyone deserves a Haven experience when faced with a life limiting illness. Continued support through Equus will ensure our ability to meet that goal.
