Levy County residents Woodrow “Woody” Lester Jr. and Roman Putchaven were recently recognized for their military service by Haven Hospice Veteran Volunteers. Lester served in the United States (U.S.) Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Lester worked in communications and spent time running track for the Army’s intramural track team. Putchaven served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division during World War II. Each veteran received a red, white and blue blanket created by volunteers from the Ellzey United Methodist Church in Otter Creek. The Haven Hospice Pinning Ceremony for veteran patients also includes a veteran pin, a thank you card signed by the staff and a certificate of appreciation from Haven Hospice which are all presented by volunteer veterans.  The presentation ends with a salute to honor the veteran’s service.
