On Saturday, March 11, Andrea Craine will look to defend her first place finish from last year’s event at the eighth annual Run for Haven. Craine, who has been running since 2006, finished the 10K portion of last year’s race in just over 43 minutes which placed her first among fellow female participants.

The St. Patrick’s Day-themed Run for Haven 5k and 10k run/walk begins at 4:30 p.m. and will wind through the Town of Tioga ending at the after-party in the town center.

“I love the after party,” said Craine who has been participating in Run for Haven since 2015. “I feel like running is something that I do for myself, but Run for Haven is great because it is something my whole family can participate in.”

This year’s race will be even more meaningful for Craine. Her 7-year-old daughter Emma will be participating in her very first Run for Haven. “Emma has been competing in races for about two years now,” said Craine. “She has been running in the Morning Mile program at Meadowbrook Elementary School and that allows her to be in shape enough to compete in timed runs.”

Emma has run in four other 5K races and completed 170 miles this school year through the Morning Mile Program. “I started running two years ago because my mom likes to run,” said Emma whose fastest 5K is about 39 minutes. “I also like doing gymnastics, playing soccer and running with my friends.”

The registration fee of $40 for Run for Haven includes the 5K and 10K run/walk, a pre-event warm-up, vouchers for food and drink, an awards ceremony, after party, and a shirt and commemorative medal for the first 600 registered runners. The run/walk will be a chip-timed race provided by Start 2 Finish Race Management. Local businesses will host informational booths and additional food and drinks will be available for purchase. The post-run party will be filled with live music, food, drinks, expo booths, an awards ceremony for overall winners and other fun-filled activities for both adults and kids!

Participants can register online until 5 p.m. on March 8 or the day of the event starting at 2:30 p.m. Registration will increase $5 on the day of the event. This year, participants can pick up their packets on Friday, March 10 at Fluid Lounge located in the Tioga Town Center from 4 to 7 p.m. Packets can also be picked up the day of the event starting at 2:30 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit the unreimbursed programs and services provided by Haven Hospice to the patients and families in Gainesville and the surrounding areas. For more information or to register, please visit www.RunforHaven.org or call Kristen Campomizzi at 352.271.4665.
