There are many ways in which your skills and your smile can make a difference by volunteering. Explore all the possibilities below!

“The most rewarding experience for us has been volunteering our time with patients that have no family. We can be there to hold their hand, talk to them, and let them know that they are not alone.”

-Louis and Delores Saulsby, Haven Volunteers

Friendly visitors/Caregiver Volunteers

Haven's Patient Caregiver Volunteers are VITAL members of our team. They work closely with Haven nurses, social workers, home health aides and chaplains to assist in providing much needed support to our patients, their families and caregivers. Their contributions range from providing periods of respite care for the family to simply being there when needed for compassion and comfort visits. They provide friendship, support and assistance to patients residing at home, in assisted living facilities or in a nursing home. This opportunity allows you to volunteer when it is best for you.

Vigil Volunteers

Provide a supportive presence to patients during final 24-48 hours.

Veteran/Honor Guard Volunteers

Haven shows our appreciation for patients who have served in all branches of the military. Through the We Honor Veterans Program, Haven provides patients with a special pinning ceremony. This volunteer opportunity is for retired or active military. Haven believes the ceremony means more to the patient when it is conducted by someone who has also served.

Haven Legacy Project

Help our patients leave a legacy of their life to their loved ones. This program includes hand photography, oral histories, memory quilts and many other creative opportunities. If you have a creative side and are looking for ways to use your craft to volunteer, this may be the perfect opportunity for you.

Celebration Volunteers

At Haven, we believe that every day is a gift. Do you like to celebrate special occasions? Joining Haven as a Celebration Volunteer is an opportunity to do just that. Celebration volunteers work to make our patient's birthdays and wedding anniversaries special. They bring balloons, cards and special gifts ensure our patients know that they are remembered and special.

Pet Visitors

Do you have a special pet that is friendly to everyone? Have you ever considered volunteering with your beloved pet? If so, becoming a Haven Hospice Pet Visit Volunteer might be the opportunity for you. Help bring a smile to our patient's faces as well as those around them by becoming a volunteer today!

Pet Peace of Mind Volunteers

Assist Haven in keeping pets and owners by providing care for animials. This program is made possible by a grant from Banfield Charitable Trust. Duties could include taking the pet for a grooming visit, a veterinary visit or just taking the pet for a walk. If you love pets, this opportunity might be for you.

Haven Ambassadors (Community Outreach)

Haven Ambassadors represent Haven Hospice at community events, speaking opportunities and health fairs. They work closely with staff and other volunteers in the community to raise awareness about the programs offered through Haven. If you like engaging with the public this opportunity is for you.

Administrative Support Volunteers

Administrative Support Volunteers provide critical office support for departments and teams at Haven. They are called upon to assist in many ways including data entry, answering phones, providing a warm welcome at the front desk, preparing information and support material for marketing, assisting with inventory control, stocking and ordering various materials, duplicating and printing documents and working with other volunteers to assist as needed. Hours for Administrative Support Volunteers are flexible and can be scheduled to meet your needs.

Attic Volunteers

It is the Haven Attic volunteers who make the stores a success. They spend time sorting donations, stocking the floor and making friends. But beyond that, they help people throughout the Haven Hospice Community -- patients and families, as well as people who have challenging economic circumstances and need an affordable place to shop. We are always seeking energetic, conscientious volunteers who are mindful of the Haven mission. We could not do what we do without our volunteers.

“I enjoy the camaraderie at the Attic – we are just like family. As a volunteer, I always feel appreciated, and I have a true sense of accomplishment when I help Attic customers.”
-Beanie Brooks, Haven Attic Volunteer

Transitions Volunteers

Transitions Volunteers are trained as patient caregiver volunteers and provide support visits, telephone support, research direct care services as needed, provide education and community referrals for individuals and families dealing with chronic illness that are not eligible for hospice services.

Bereavement Volunteers

Work with families who experienced the loss of a loved one. Camp Safe Haven is a part of our bereavement program. Spend a day at camp nurturing a child who has lost a loved one and watch them grow throughout the day.

Haven Medical Equipment Volunteers

Haven Medical Equipment Volunteers work in the stockroom or help with medical equipment delivery.

Licensed Massage Therapy Volunteers

Our volunteer licensed massage therapists provide a gentle, compassionate touch to our patients, helping them relax and decreasing their pain, stress and anxiety. Patient and caregiver as well as advanced palliative care training is required. A current Florida Massage Therapy License and personal liability insurance are also required.

Spiritual Care Volunteers

Spiritual Care Volunteers work closely with Haven Hospice Chaplains to provide emotional and spiritual support and comfort to our patients and their families. Pastoral Care Volunteers also assist in the planning and coordination of memorial services and act as liaisons to the religious communities that Haven serves. Patient and Caregiver as well as Pastoral Care training is required.
