Patient and Family Volunteers
As vital members of the Haven Hospice patient care team, Patient and Family Volunteers provide companionship, support and assistance to patients residing at home, in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals and any of Haven Hospice’s inpatient care centers.

Administrative Volunteers
Providing office and clerical support services for departments and teams throughout the organization, Administrative Volunteers assist by greeting visitors, preparing information and support materials for mailings, answering phones, entering data, helping with printing and duplication services, filing records and documents, and making phone calls.

Alliance Volunteers
The Haven Hospice Alliance is a membership organization whose volunteers assist in planning, producing, and participating in fundraising activities, events and projects. They develop community partnerships and participate in community programs to raise awareness of the Haven Hospice mission.

Arts Program Volunteers
The Haven Hospice Arts Program offers area artists a venue to show their work gallery style, rotating between various sites. Volunteers for this program assist with rotating the art pieces throughout the hospice care centers and offices, showing their own work and soliciting new artists to the program.

Attic Resale Store Volunteers
Playing a vital role in the day-today operations of the stores, Haven Hospice Attic Resale Store Volunteers accept and process donated items, create displays, assist with customer service, answer phones, play the piano, cashier (credit check screen required) and repair furniture.

Teen Volunteers
If you are a teen 14 to 17 year of age, you can earn service hours for school, church or scholarships by volunteering at the Attic Resale Stores or administratively in our area offices.  Please complete the teen application .  Teens who have a current driver’s license and are at least 16 years old, also need to complete a background screen.

Camp Safe Haven
Volunteers are trained to assist children with grief and bereavement exercises through a daylong series of activities. Camp Safe Haven is held twice-annually with a session for younger children and one for older children. Patient/family and advanced bereavement trainings required.

Facilities Volunteers
Working with the Facilities Department, these volunteers help maintain and enhance Haven Hospice’s inpatient Care Centers and offices. Volunteers assist with minor repairs, maintenance jobs such as painting, deliveries, carpentry, woodworking and special projects, including caring for donated plants and gardens and birdfeeders.

Healing Hearts Volunteers
Healing Hearts Volunteers reach out to grieving families and individuals by assisting with support groups for both adults and children affected by the loss of a loved one. They  provide emotional support by phone and assist in the planning and coordination of memorial services and holiday programs that offer a time of remembrance and reflection. Patient/family and advanced bereavement trainings required.

Licensed Massage Therapy Volunteers
Our volunteer licensed massage therapists provide gentle, compassionate touch to our patients, helping them to relax and decreasing their pain, stress and anxiety. Patient/family and advanced palliative care trainings required.

Pastoral Care Volunteers
Working closely with Haven Hospice Chaplains to provide emotional and spiritual support and comfort to patients and families, Pastoral Care Volunteers also assist in the planning and coordination of memorial services and act as liaisons to the religious communities Haven Hospice serves and training new volunteers.  Patient/family and Pastoral Care trainings required.

Pet Therapy Volunteers
Volunteers who have pets that are specially trained as Pet Therapy animals visit patients in Haven Hospice’s inpatient care centers. Volunteer and their pets provide alternative ways for the patient to express feelings and emotions. Patient/family training required.

Speaker's Bureau and Community Outreach Volunteers
Community Outreach Volunteers promote community education and awareness of the Haven Hospice mission. Whether setting up a tabletop display at health fairs or making presentations to groups at churches and civic organizations through Haven Hospice Speaker’s Bureau, they have a unique role as Haven Hospice ambassadors. Speakers Bureau training required.

Transitions Volunteers
Transitions Volunteers are trained to provide telephone support, education and community referrals for individuals and their families who are dealing with serious and life-limiting illnesses but are not ready to seek hospice care. Patient/family training required.

Santa at Attic

Santa Dennis is a member of Santa America, a national volunteer service organization that provides Santas to visit children and families in hospice care as well as children  coping with chronic pediatric illness or suffering from post-traumatic stress.  He is also one of our trained Patient/Family volunteers.  Dennis started his Santa career while serving in the Navy in Brunswick, Maine.  Now he makes regular appearances in the Alachua County area.  He loves bringing smiles to the faces of children and adults alike year round and says that “It’s a privilege for me to play Santa.”
